Play whatever you want, but expect to quit the game multiple times out of frustration if you don't follow a guide. Know that most builds are going to require a decent amount of currency sinked into them to even be viable in red tier maps. My greatest advice to you would be to play something easy like a summoner to understand what you should and should not pick up. 100% you will need an item filter. Google Neversink filterblade and use Strict until you get a good idea of how to farm currency, then you can move up to uber strict if you feel you are rich enough and sick of seeing certain trash items.
I've played zombie builds for 5 years and would suggest that to you. Spectres are also insanely easy to build. If you're not that interested in zombies you could run them until you can switch over to spectres.

Your main concern is that nerfs happen literally every league in this game. So what works really good this league, may not in the next. My personal belief is that spectres will be nerfed next league. I don't see them doing much to zombies as they've been in kind of a bad spot up until this league.
