I never played a Scion.. abit confused with ascendancy for scion.. can this character pick any ascendancy like Slayer or beserker?

Will the ascendancy tree be similar.. i wanna use the slayer ascendancy from a duelist.. will the nodes be the same like culling strike & life leech?

you get an agglomerated node with a few weaker version of a handful of chosen mods from each ascendancy you do not get access to the full tree
