projectiles still not shotgun, so the AoE ground targeting skill not overlaps on a single target

It does and he said so in video. The focus of the re-work seems to be letting the users scale the actual hit, explosion and then secondary DoT ground effect.

caustic arrow has always been a favorite of mine even though its always been lackluster

going to run it even if its not as strong as it appears to potentially be
