I normally play melee builds, aside from the Lifesprig/Goldrim/Wanderlust, how do you "tweak" a low level caster.

Pick a spell, understand it, and gear accordingly. If u want overpowered fast progression, set up a boxing contest with toddlers so u can be the champion.

Freezing pulse with 2 keystone jewels is even more OP than that.
