Just starting up on Poe and whoah is it confusing. Looking for some info.
What character is good to start with? Guidance on the skill point allocations and gems and what not. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Being completely honest, the best thing to do as a beginner is to pick a class that you enjoy (like casting spells? Witch or Templar. Like bow characters? Ranger, etc) and just dive in.
There are many guides and resources out there, however, many are geared toward late game play.

Run through the campaign, enjoy the storyline, and once you get the the end, re-assess where you are

Check youtube for beginner tips.
It's way too much to type here.

Following a popular/detailed build guide is the easiest way to play. I still do that and later adjust to my likings.

Best starter in my opinion is somons what ever totem or srs .. most somon will lvl up nicely and do storie with out any crazy gears..
Harder? Any melee.. you need to be close combat..upgrade your wepon ofthen and armors..know crafts etc..
If you dont like somon.. any range mage stuf att leasth your a bit away...
Thing is poe about build spécification depanding on what end game you want..and to want it you need to try it.. XD
And end game 80% about lucky drops

In my humble opinion, I have been playing since version 3.7, Legion league, and I am mostly a solo player. I've had to do a lot of research, be very patient, and delve into builds and items. I got a lot of help from YouTube, forums, Discord communities, and more. It's not an easy path; you have a lot to learn. I recommend taking it easy, progressing a little more with each league, and most importantly, learning and reading everything. Do not just copy/paste, as that doesn't help. Good luck, Exile.
