Well, the people who were supportive of GGG as an "indie game company" care. It's now a huge slap in the face, and it will also disincentivize further supporter pack purchases (majority of that goes to Tencent instead)
That's how GGG became who they are. And 80% is huge.
cluelessmiller as usual, still lying about being a game dev?
100% of all money goes to GGG and development/server upkeep/staff salaries etc
until those are all covered, by that point it's just a percentage of their profits that goes to tencent. Why do you care if some of that money which wasn't going back into the game anyway is going to GGG investors rather than into Chris's money pool? Buying from ggg is still supporting PoE. The sheer cluelessness and salt of 'fans' of this game is going to be what does the most harm to the game. Lower income will mean they'll either have to expand monetization methods or cut down on funding for the development cycle to ensure tencent still get their dues. Either outcome is bad, and neither would be to the fault of tencent.
They pretty much just want to publish PoE in china, getting a juicy cut of their international profits is a side priority.
t. i have played a copious amount of f2p games before and after tencent acquisitions and they never do a damn thing to change them. If shit goes bad it would have gone down the same way with or without them.
and PoE still has at least a few years to go before it starts nosediving by its own fault.
