just need some more reps, knowing little quirks of the fight helps. I can't say build/gear doesn't help b/c more dps, shorter fight, less chances to die. really just comes down to reps though imho. If you have the fight down gear doesn't matter, though if you have the gear the mechanics don't matter. Kind of weird but true.
