blight was meh, pretty boring overall
metamorph was ok but it needed some fixes which took 2 weeks, and too many 1 shots even with 15k ehp which people dont like, and was pretty ridiculous
harvest was shit, no further explanation needed
delirium was really cool, but totally NOT beginner/casual friendly so there goes the retention
heist was fun for a week, after that it was like playing standard because heist became tedious af after a while so you ignore it (oh and thinking of it, it took a whole month to have most bugs fixed, so yeah heist was actually very shit)
all in all, quite a few reasons player retention wasnt very great over the last year imo
upcoming league however does have alot potential i think, and given the fact they had a month extra to develop, they better not fuck this up. i cant wait for friday to play!
Happy that you are excited about the expansion coming up bro

I'm not here to hate on the game.
I had fun in Path of Exile 2013-2014, short visit 2016ish and occasional dip in during whatever league it was where you unveiled/figured "mystery" bandit fractions that could randomly appear, as well as the league after that (allthough it was ill-received, full of bugs) where you went into space and built mazes/convoluted af crafting system. Of these times I played it, I liked the core concept of the game more closer to its release (2013) and less and less with it's evolution.
And I would love to enjoy PoE in 2021, but as some people have brought up, the heavily convoluted mess you get for adding 25-or-whatever leagues and their systems into the core game makes it very challenging for someone picking up the game after a 2 year or so break. Imagine never having played the game and start fresh now...
And I mean, yeah, the game is "complex" af, but to me it feels like arbitrary/manipulated or forced complexity for the sake of complexity (or maybe I'm just dumb iq 80 :P). It would be great if difficulty (PvE wise) was achieved through other means, such as long term progression (need for items, grind those out), and a need to be skilled with your character (mechanical skills/co-ordination for team play). But yeah that is a pipe dream I guess when was the last time we saw that in an rpg (and d2 was shit there too).
Alot of things are great about PoE though! But I wouldn't be suprised if many people who enjoyed D2 for it's PvP and RPG-aspects don't really enjoy it as much as some. I personally don't enjoy the constant meta shifts every 3 months where build a (old, reworked into overpowered) and b (mediocre) and c (new and overpowered) just turns on its head (it must be intentional by the devs to attract ppl come back and try "this new shiny build!") league after league over and over. It feels forced imo. I wish PvP or Long term progression/raiding (yes raiding) was solid enough to keep players hooked for atleast 6-12 months without these constant reworks of balance/new systems.
That said I believe the game simply isn't for me, but it's not to say it's necessarily a
bad game.
Sorry for spilling my heart out here at random
