Hurrdurr jsp and reddit going apeshit as usual lol

Assuming Tencent handles this like they did before, this should definitely be an upgrade for PoE.
I agree that calling GGG an indy company atm isn't quite correct anymore but at the same time the developers are still the same and Tencent has a good history of letting the devs do as they please.
Usually deals like these have terms that heavily limit the influence the "buyer/owning" company can have on the bought company.
GGG most likely has still the rights to decide who works for them, how the game is developed (outside of china) and how to monetize it etc. etc.

However this will be a huge gain for GGG in terms of money that they can invest in development considering they can properly access the Chinese market now (and possibly get funding from Tencent? not sure bout this one though)

Stuff like this might also lead to way bigger updates than an indie company could ever pull off if they can get funding from Tencent.

On a completely different note for all you tinfoil hat wearing people here, Tencent is definitely a strong candidate for the the future world ruling company. Google and facebook got nothing on them

These guys are literally part of every possible industry that has something to do with technology.
Stuff like social media, games, music, payment systems, movie production, cloud services, robotics you name it

Afaik they are one of the most valuable companies in the world and they are very rapidly spreading (even to my home town :baby: )

ye, like I said... nothing changes. poe will keep steady growth, plan to go from 114 to 130 employees. less stress on company, more financial freedom and leeway. they've never had the chance to re-visit things in poe that needs updating(let's say just for one example, UI, like customization of it) over producing new content every league cycle... now they will be able to allocate some resources to that, and allocate more resources in general, up the production quality further.
ppl like to talk doomsday shit - in most cases don't even believe what they're saying, it's just for amusement. all of this will blow over very soon. when incursion releases in 10 days you will have forgotten about this and enjoy the shit out of the league as usual.
also ggg deserve any and all success imo, they started with 3 of them from a fucking garage in 2006, and been working very hard since then to make poe from a crappy noname d2 clone to the go-to definitive game in the genre. all well deserved. sometimes you have to make important decisions. imagine if they hadn't changed anything and kept the game that same ultra-hardcore niche it started out as. lol, they would have gone bankrupt years ago, with the same few hundred moneyless nerds playing. and that's the point. casuals bring the $ and the numbers, they made a good decision for sake of growth, yet it's still poe, it's still a great, fun, and challenging game. tencent deal will allow for more growth once again and further improve poe, without compromising its integrity.

Their UI is fine and fast af/smooth for what it has to do (skill tree, ui, bunch of stuff). Their engine on the other hand..
