I don't have a lot of D3 experience, but in comparing this to D2 it did pretty much everything right. I would rate the hardcore difficulty on this game as more difficult than D2HC. It's very easy to get two shot if you don't know how the next difficulties will treat you. Not that the same can't happen in D2. Just feels like this one is more difficult. I go melee all the time so your opinions may vary!

melee is definitely more challenging but mainly for the fact that desyncs occur extremely often, positioning as well and movement gems to get out of bad spots

If my opinion matters any (which i guess it shouldn't - but atleast i am all about ARPGS and played d2 since 2002~ and d3 since release) path of exile beats diablo 3 for me on ALL levels except a very select few.
The only things I can think of is that the action/mobslaying is more polished in d3. Most likely due the producers past history in Console games (think about it, the battles in d3 are a little like consolish~) and the obvious advantage of being a Multi billion dollar company. The gameplay is really smooth and sometimes a little challenging. This is my experience from the Witch doctor anyhow which i played 90-95% of my 750~h
And then there is the physics engine, the response when u make actions and the overall stability.

But from my perspecitve these are good things that you can wish for after the basic requirements for an ARPG are close to perfected.
Im talking about the character progression, the importance of planning your build (poe took a great direction with their passive point tree, where as d3 doesn't even have skill progression worth mentioning.
Im also talking about the itemization - I been over this so many times I cant be arsed anymore but to most people it's obvious that PoE has a deep item system that takes a fat dump on diablo 3's badly thought out, dumbed down, flat out retarded itemization.

today I would rate PoE 7,5/10, with the budget, stability, more polished end game it would be a 8,5-9/10.
Diablo 3 would score like 4-5/10

take PoE philosophy and talent in the crew, slap blizzard logo and givem the same budget and call it diablo 3 - im sure d3 would've been praised as a worthy sequel

edit on topic of which game requires more skill... Neither requires alot, just a little experience, I could agree diablo 3 requires a little more skill. But on hardcore it's easier to stay alive on d3, u just have to have the basic skill required and reach "checkpoints" in stats on any named build i'd say. PoE there's alot more mobs that will cause you to panic for sure.

You cant get Rick Rhoa'd from off the screen in D3. The only real skill there is avoiding Bowser's lazer beams

Fail type and couldnt edit

You cant get Rick Rhoa'd from off the screen in "POE". The only real skill there is avoiding Bowser's lazer beams in D3.

P.S. the game isn't even RELEASED yet

The game has been released already. Open beta is a so called soft-release. You play it. They won't wipe your characters. You can purchase stuff for real money and provide them with money for future patches.
Don't get me wrong. Diablo 3 is a pretty shitty game but saying that poe hasn't been released already is invalid. Both games haven't reached their final stage yet.

You are paying them money for permanent and fully functioning items. You don't pay them anything to beta test the game or for future patches. Money used from cash shop sales undoubtedly go towards further development of the game but you aren't paying for it.

Sorry but I'm getting sick of this line of reasoning being used when they have already given a timeline for the game's official release.

.

Game is staying as a F2P model indefinitely as far as I know. No one is EVER going to pay for patches or items directly if GGG keeps their word on P2W advantage. Those who pay for stuff in the cash shop are paying for the game because they either want neat effects, or a space advantage(Tabs are as close to P2W this game will ever be IMO). I know what money I used in the cash shop I gave because I really like GGG's ethical standpoint on gaming, and their constant interaction with their community.

F2P game models make more money than any one time 60 dollar fee game ever will. Gaming companies aren't doing us a favor by allowing us to play for free. They create a business model through in game transactions that will far exceed any old methods of making money in the gaming industry. We are helping gaming companies simply by playing these games and sharing through word of mouth.
