Of course! After all - the game is free, nothing to lose but time. Even if you get into it, the "necessary" mtx (currency tab, premium tab, some extra tabs) are cheap, around $20 for all of those, maybe less when they go on sale every 3 weeks.

The meta is pretty diverse! Blade Vortex assassins are the most popular, at around 14% of players playing it:

I think the [3.13] Remi's Toxic Rain Pathfinder build describes what you mention. Easy to learn, easy to gear, easy to get into the beginning of endgame content without much investment. What makes a newbie-friendly build like TR unique, is that you can scale it so ridiculously well into endgame that it'll annihilate all endgame content and bosses.
[3.13] Kay's Necro Summoner (Spectres | Spiders | SRS) - great and popular, but very passive playstyle, if that's your thing.
[3.13] Dejuvenate's Flameslinger Elementalist - Great caster, cheap to get in starting gear - also scales well into endgame
[3.13] Enki's Arc Witch - A popular and efficient caster build. I've never played a caster build, but know several people who enjoy this one.
Bladefall/Bladeblast Chieftan is strong and looks like a lot of fun to play, just hearing about friends who started the league with it.
^ just google those to see the builds i'm talking about. I don't think any links are allowed on jsp.

Learning the game is a lot of the fun. If you have questions, post them here! I've been lurking the PoE subforum lately and will be glad to help.

Hey Wretch!

Ended up making a Witch and gotta say - this game is AWESOME. However, I'm struggling to find spells. I only have fireball and spawn zombies so far. Do you know how I can get a spell to cast lightning? I want to make a lite sorc parallel to Diablo2. Do you think that's a viable build for a newbie?

Also, the currency in this game is very strange. The items I used to ID and upgrade gear is also a currency for items from the vendors? But they're different for different things? How do you effectively farm up specific currency? Never seen anything like this.

Lastly, is D2JSP relatively active for trading gear and spells? Cause it would be awesome if my D2 farming could have benefits over here as well! If not, I may need to put my MFing off for good.

Thanks for all your wisdom, O'wise one.

You'll be able to buy skill gems from specific NPC's in town once you finish quests, certain classes unlock certain skills up until Act 6 where you should be able to buy all of the basic skill gems/support gems in the game for any class.
there are specific "vendor recipes" for some currency's I'd say chaos orbs are your basic standard for currency and can be obtained easily enough once your in zone levels 60+ and vendoring one of each item slot - 1 helm, 2 rings, 1 ammy, boots gloves etc etc at the same time.

d2jsp is active for trading currency - more specifically Exalted orbs

where you want to spend your time trading items and gems etc is poe.trade or the path of exile trade section.

hah!

The Arc skill gem is available at lvl 12, from "The Siren's Cadence" quest in Act 1. That sounds like it'll be a good match to what you're looking for. Once a skill gem is made available through a quest, whether you select it as the reward or not, it'll be available for purchase at that act's gem NPC - in Act 1 it's Nessa, on page 2 of her inventory. So even if you passed up the reward and chose something else, it should be available to buy from Nessa. If it's not there, just do the quest.

The currency system is a lot to take in - but is brilliant. Each currency has a use as i'm sure you've noticed, and they all have respective exchange in the market as well as at NPCs based on their usefulness/rarity. The primary currency to trade with is chaos orbs. The rest, unless you find yourself with a large amount of alterations (which trade for chaos 3:1), you can use/experiment with/save for later. The main way to farm chaos this late in the league, would be to find decent items and sell them for chaos, but you'll find plenty of chaos as drops and from rituals while leveling. There are lightweight price-checking tools in-game so you can price check items too (Awakened PoE Trade is amazing)

BTW, you need a premium stash tab to sell items. You stick it in the tab, right click it to set your price, and then wait for someone to PM you saying they want to buy it and make a quick trade in your hideout. If you want to browse items for sale or just search for specific stuff just to see what it's about, google "official path of exile trade".

The only things really traded on jsp are exalts (worth 100 chaos each) or really good items. Any activity you play in PoE will have the potential to yield chaos, exalts, and lucky drops worth a lot of chaos. Of course there are some endgame areas that you can target farm, but don't worry about that for now.

Want an invite to our guild in-game? We have stash tabs set up with leveling gear you could use. Tabs are labeled 1-20, 21-40, 41-60, 60+, endgame gear, and maps for when you get there. You'd be doing us a favor by actually using this stuff haha. PM me your IGN if you want.
