unless you need to be the first one on the servers (which usually aren't stable for 2-3 hours anyway) at the start of a league there is no real issue.
patches thru steam are twice the size of standalone and because of the way steam and ggg update it has to pre-allocate for awhile as well, some people report this taking a very long time. its never been an issue for me.
that being said the only real bonus to steam is 1. you can use your steam wallet to purchase mtx/tabs etc and 2. you can track your total hours.
only problem is when they release small patches, even an ssd takes forever to patch for no reason, when standard client takes less than 60 seconds.
Don't get unlimited time to play, well before covid shit, so when it took 20 mins to update that was a good chunk of my time to play and sometimes they throw out updates 2 days in a row.
