They're called leagues in PoE and they always have their own league mechanic introduced that sometimes goes to core when the league ends.

Poe should be super addicting and refreshing to new players. As for me, I’m playing path of diablo til poe 2 is out.

You start with following a guide and the fun starts when you start to make your own build.
(I am not a fan of meta builds. My build would be different and have a different concept/approach from the meta builds)
