Same, played this league maybe 3 days, then the warm weather came and I stopped to do some kayaking, fishing, mushroom hunting, etc. and never came back.

Honestly, I am like ok-ish at PoE. I have to use a guide for most builds, but I do understand what I am selecting. The league before last I had about a 300 div character, which I consider decent for two weeks playing.

The main reason I get burned out on PoE is because we are expected to play a league starter build to crush maps, but then switch over to something when we can afford more. I want to be able to play something fun from the beginning, which seems to be somewhat of a "no no" and a slower route.

Maybe next league I'll just select a fun char to begin with and stride through the slower game play in hopes it gets better.

Doesn't help that meta skills are far above non meta.

eheheh brother
the good thing about d2 was that we didnt need to grind at all! i mean yes someone did it, but ehm *we* didnt
which really helps!

also for d2 endgame (which is pvp) you didnt really need that much grind  ! you could just respec your mf sorc to es fb and do well even with dirt cheap gear (viper, trang gloves, spirit sword, spirit shield or even better whitstans which was good against shit tier grief hdins and such), and even if you made a serious pvp char, you would need like 4-5 hrs in total for entire gear and in 90% duels it wouldnt even matter. and if you chose to play cooperative with friends, gear was even less of a problem. i mean sure high end gear like perfect circlets/rings/amulets/charms was expensive, but no one cared except the absolute top players because you could be extremely good even with budget gear

in poe its like, if you dont invest, you are shit. and yes many times people say how its "so easy to make a good char without investment", but never offer any evidence for it. for example, in d2 you could make a 10fg smiter on 2nd ladder day using lets say black rw, goblin toes and guillaume (100% crushing blow), shit like 4 x pdiamond random shield/smoke rw/raven and a random life tap wand bought in a town, and humiliate anything the game has to offer. im yet to see something like that done in poe. thats what i loved about d2, items really didnt matter so grind didnt matter either! actually the word "grind" didnt even exist, people did runs because they wanted to, not because they needed to  !

edit: i just realized something like d2 will never happen again and now im sad

well i dont wanna sound like a commie, but i liked that everyone could afford good gear with no investment  everyone was doing the fun stuff instead of just chasing for things..idk i never understood why we need to fight bots  instead, we should embrace bots  ! poe for example wouldnt be improved much by bots because good stuff is really rare, but in d2 bots were finding some good gear

thats for example why i found it weird when d4 devs said "we are restricting trade in order to fight bots"..everything was weird about that sentence  the motive was a lie, even if it wasnt it wouldnt help because some people would always do it, solution was retarded, and for a problem that never existed in the first place

personally, i would include bots with the game the same way bioware included module creation kit with neverwinter nights. but then again, i would also add beer to mcdonalds

Nah D2 bots were dogshit that reduced the value of everything. Finding a godly item should feel good, but when you have bots just running 24/7 finding them diminishes the value of the items.

tbh i was never about finding items  i was about playing with or against others, finding items was just filler content to me, i considered it boring so i used bots for that
personal opinion ofc, but to me it felt exactly the same identifying an item myself vs coming home from school and seeing an item found by a bot ^_^

edit: i understand this is completely personal and ofc nothing against datz or you ofc, is just what i enjoyed  !

Feels like either I am burned out or all online arpgs on the market are a bit boring right now. Looking back on the golden days of Diablo 2 I never got bored, it was fabulous.

if you havent already, buy and try last epoch, theres patch 1.1 coming in july (basicly ladder reset for it) and im hyped for it, game is promising imo i played like 300h+ in 1month at 1.0 launch like 2-3months ago

LE was fun at first - loot bloat is a big problem, at least to me.

Had fun making builds etc. last year but just doesn’t do it for me now, and I spent prob around 400 hours on it so far.

I agree with OP - arpgs have kinda stagnated. It was a slippery slope and now we’ve slid down it, there’s no going back up the hill. Guess you’d just say Pandora’s box or something.

theres litterally no loot bloat in last epoch... i had a super strict filter showing me only great stuff? ofc u need to do some research to find a good filter or make one yourself i guess?

poe is even worse, u need to pickup all the crap and identify it lmao in lastepoch atleast it drops identified

I played LE bc I liked to try builds, so the filters were excessive. I don’t trade (might eventually try it but meh) so it felt necessary to pickup A LOT of stuff “in case”. Was fun at first, but not a huge fan of the style of crafting for endgame - it’s great for early - mid game though.

If you’re only going to play 1 build, maybe 2 and focus solely on the items specifically for those builds, sure, I could see loot being fine. But I’m generally a hoarder anyway, and save for waaay too many “I wanna try something” builds, it’s tedious and too much, again, mostly due to HOW the crafting works.

Also the gameplay loop is insanely repetitive, basically equal to d3 or d4. Poe dominates this for a few reasons, and LE will never touch it, at least imo.

To each their own though. LE will definitely have a cult following for years to come, and it will likely continue to do well.
