I was fortunate enough to play at National Golf Links of America ( Ranked #7 in the United States and #12 in the world)
What was unfortunate was that it was my first time ever playing at sea level and I left my short game in the hotel room. Luckily, the course was in pristine condition and I was too busy with the ooos and aahhs to get mad at my game.
you'll see this is a true links style course not like the few pretenders we have around here. Fairways, tees, and greens get cut every day and the tees are mowed tighter than we mow our approaches.

This windmill is world famous and is in a lot of coffee table golf books and calenders.

As you can see.... GORGEOUS. This is golf as it was meant to be. I had never played a course like this and now I hate where I work and play golf. Parkland golf is just not the same

Right now, I play to a 6
I have lowered my handicap from a 10 in the last couple months since graduating college and have more time to play again.
Still want to get back to a 4 or better where I was a couple years ago.

PS.
Our caddie also caddies at Shinnecock (which is actually across the street) and swears this course is better hands down.

I also played Bethpage Black and wish i didn't... it is in terrible shape and the superintendent should be let go... Shame how they let a US Open course go like that.
No pics though, I forgot my camera

Im playing a 8 handi cap atm, I was a 4 in highschool, and its fluctuated quiet abit in the past few years with work and girlfriend. But its a shame to hear about Bethpage, that reminds me when I lived in Del Mar and went to Torrey Pines almost every day and marveling on what a shit hole it was.. and this was like a year after TIGER WOODS won there.

I am happy to report that I went back and played the North Course at Torrey Pines and the city of San Diego realized they should put some money into again, it looked great.

Yeah, that is too bad.
Bethpage (Black Course) and both Torrey Pines are 2 of the best public courses anywhere.
It sucked to see it like that. It was so bad on a couple greens that there was bare dirt showing. We were the last group out and the superintendent was tarping those greens right behind us to keep soil temps up to get more seed germination.
Also, bare dirt on the walk paths and very sparse rough. I guess New York throws money at it when Us open goes there though.
