As there is no sub forum I found this place to post this.

I am brand new to golf... like I have been out with someone who knew what they were doing about two times now..never on an actual course. (putting green, driving range, etc)

I am very interested and am wanting to become involved.

I was just at a local sporting goods store "window shopping" and saw that sets of clubs range from $100-$400 (and much higher ofc but this was the majority)

I am new to this, not sure if I am going to enjoy it 100% but I do not want to be using junk. What are some sets of clubs I should look at? Would I be that much better off buying used?

What are some more tips that you guys would give to a new golfer that would start things off right.

I have been learning the basics and want to get most of that down before I even set a foot on the actual course as I do not want to hate it when I do extremely poorly. (though I dont have high hopes for my first time ofc)

Anyway, thanks guys. I am interested to hear some of your tips as some of you seem fairly experienced.

good to see your interest, you must have a friend that plays?

I would think about getting one of the cheaper sets to start, if you could get a full set for $100 that would be awesome. You willl need to include irons, woods, a putter and a bag. Usually those "boxed" sets are sold for 250-450.
Nothing wrong with starting cheap.

Mostly it's the green fees that will get you, golf can range from $20 to $100 depending on the calibler of course your playing. Sometimes you can get coupons in the paper or specials on slower times (like after 2:00 weekdays).

I would totally suggest going to the driving range for awhile, learning how to hit decent shots with all your clubs first. Dont forget about the practice green, chipping, and sand shots also.

I have found driving to be the hardest part for me so far. I am working to fix my slice.

I really enjoy chipping and putting though.

just make sure your shoulder, elbow, hand, and driver head line up for the drive to go straight

Used clubs are good to start with, and try to go to a golf store they can help fit you. if you buy a set normally they fit the clubs for free.

If you can get a lesson from a PGA professional, or join a group lesson it will help you a lot. Your grip and setup have to be correct before you can begin to swing the club properly.

Good luck!

driving the ball should be easy. You get to put it on a tee, the clubhead and sweetspot are bigger on your driver than any other club.

But... the velocity and spin rate on the golf ball are higher, causing it to slice or hook more.
