I never agree with people who reason like this in sports when comparing athletes.
50 years ago knowledge and technology around golf was a lot less developed, so saying that it easier then because the players weren't as good as they are now is not an argument. Same thing as saying it would be easier to win a tournament for kids when you are a child because kids aren't as good as adults, while actually the competition is just as strong because you're not great either.

Cool video by the way, I know nothing about golf, but I was surprised by how far he takes the club back and how far he swings it after he hits the ball.
