I was talking about my longest recorded drive ever, and it was downhill and downwind.
I can believe that on certain occasions and hole that good golfers are able to hit the ball 400 yards. I've seen pictures on holes on the tour that you have to carry the ball about 250-260 and then it lands on a severer downslope you can prolly get about 100yards of run.. at the pga grandslam that keegan bradley won, rory mcliroy hit a 414 yarder but it was down wind and probably the most sloped hole i've ever seen, some holes are built to make your ball run. Still, if you drove a green over 400 yards away, thats really impressive no matter what conditions...I've never even heard of a par 4 that long and meant to be drove, usually a drivable par 4 on the pga tour is about 350 yards and the players usually have to run the ball up to the green for a chance a Eagle , and only a few can manage to do this. I think my longest is about 350ish with downwind and a downslope, on a 580 yard par 5, and I hit the ball a long ways..and have been playing golf my whole life.
But the first guy saying he hits it over 400 on flat ground w/ no wind is just bullshit. There arent many golf courses with driving ranges that go to 350 yards, so there would be no way to really know how far your hitting it EVEN if you can somehow get it past the 350 markers consistently, which only long driving pros can do that..consistently
I'm sure they're are a few fat/strong people out there who just whallop the ball, and can drive the ball 350, but I highly doubt most of them can hit it straight or with a draw to gain more distance.
