Yeah I dont know. I just have to get more reps in and have someone watching me. Just gotta learn it like everything else.

Keep that arm straight and don't overswing. I still swing without much force because hitting the ball square will give it plenty of distance. Yea, it won't go 300 yds but playing from the fairway for a 150-170 yd shot to the pin is much easier than 150-170 yd shot because it sailed 40 yds to the right and is sitting in the rough

I have found driving to be the hardest part for me so far.  I am working to fix my slice.

I really enjoy chipping and putting though.

rotate your right hand more underneath the club, left hand more on top of club(if right handed)

or google "strong grip"

this is an "easy" fix but u may find it useful if you are hitting a lot of high slices

EDIT: found a picture that may help you visualize it.

STRONG Grip______________________________WEAK Grip

The best advice I can give to you is get a lesson. You are less likely to be stuck with bad habbits.

As far as Irons go, I would recommend starting with a set of cavity back irons (3-PW). You can most likely demo a set at your local golf shop.
I would also recommend getting 1-3 blade style (forged) wedges.
With the hybrid technology out there now you may want to pickup a 3 or a 4 hybrid
Any driver manufactured post 2007 will suffice, the technology in the drivers has not increased much over the past few years. I would stay away from the gigantic wide 460 cc drivers. Its a personal thing for me, I never feel like i can swing them fast.
Make sure you get a solid putter. Remember, 40% of your strokes will be on the putting green.

If you have any questions feel free to pm me

edit: about slicing:
A slice is a left to right curving ball path (for a right handed golfer)
A slice is caused by side spin on the ball.
Side spin is generated by two ways
1. club face is not square to ball
2. Club head comes across the ball instead of through causing a brushing hit.

if your club face is not square play around with your grip (as seen above in a graphic)
Pay attention to your swing arc, you want the club to be moving straight through the ball. Also, Make sure you are the same distance away from the ball every time you address it. If you are too close to the ball this can encourage one of those brushing type of hits where the club moves outside in the back swing and inside on the foreswing
