I'm a beginner at golf. Not that great, but I've played the game. I'm looking into purchasing a set for myself instead of using friends. I just need some basic knowledge on what I should be looking for, brands, which clubs to get and what not. Any help is appreciated.

Looking to spend roughly $300-400 on the set whether it be separate or a complete set. Thanks!

Hmm not sure. I've decided to scratch those anyways.

I've decided on getting a iron set and purchase the driver, fairway woods, putter, and bag separate.
Wondering if any of you guys have owned and/or used the clubs and could give me some feedback.

It's a lot more than I expected to spend, but I don't feel safe buying complete sets since they appear to be cheap and from what I've read, break easily.

/edit
I'm also torn on whether to get regular or stiff flex, I'm leaning towards regular.

The iron set will be 4-Pw & Sw steel shaft regular flex, Driver stiff flex @ 10.5 loft, 3 Wood & 5 Wood regular flex, and the Putter there @ 34 inches.

upgrade to rocketballz, be alot better. that burner wasnt taylor made's best driver, but it would be good enough to get you around the course and the price is cheaper.
Irons look good

Do you have a Dick's Sporting Goods close to your house?

i would go and test out the clubs if possible, especially the putters. I went to a dicks and tested out almost all the putters and picked the one that felt the best. I ordered it online later but knew it was the one I liked most and felt comfortable with.

Nah I don't, but I have plenty of places that sell clubs. I'll most definitely try them out before I buy, but I'm just not settled on which to get.

upgrade which to rocketballz? just the driver?
I mean, I'm a beginner and the rocketballz are much more expensive. I figured the clubs I have listed above will suit me for a few years and once I'm better I'll get a set fitted and spend more money to get a more current set of clubs that are fit to my swing.

I just sold my talormade burners and they were great clubs. Sold because im getting i20 irons. Whats ur build and swing speed. The majority of the people between ages 15-35 use stiff flex.
http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=11420170&ab=GolfCats2_HotDeals1_drivers I recommend the calloway octone driver over the taylormade buner having tried them both but its all personal preference. sucks u just missed the special where you buy one talormade driver/fairway wood get the other driver fairway wood half off. and rocketballs are overrated just my opinion may work for some people but i tried them out and nothing special

if there was a dicks sporting goods 45mins or an hour from your house its worth the drive. just go there when they have a pro and he will help you out. note that some dicks selections are bigger then others and have a wider selection. and most dicks have a place where u can hit some balls out with the clubs

Nah, no dicks sporting goods anywhere near. =/ I was able to hit quite a few drivers at Academy including the taylormade burner, but honestly, I'm too new to this to even tell the difference.
