I've traditionally been a bulker during the winter months (golf off-season) but last year, being my first year golfing, I think I will be needing to change-up my winter workouts to accomodate my golf game rather than bulking.

So the question I am going to put out there... as a golfer, what kind of areas should I be focusing on and what kind of workouts are good for golf? What about what kind of weight training is good for golf?

Thanks.

Ive been dedicating myself to working out this off season, doing rotational exercises and other workouts. I have torn an abdominal muscle and developed a hernia right under my navel. fucking sucks, meeting with the surgeon on monday.
Looking at about a month recovery time after surgery,at best. There is no options other than surgery. basically it's a hole in my abdomanal wall that my guts want to push through and it wont heal itself.

met with the surgeon today, kind of good news. He said that he can just stich it up instead of putting the mesh net in. it's also a pretty small hole between the muscles, only about as big as a pencil eraser.

I workout a lot with weights. Seems to me that golf makes use of the legs, back, torso, hips, and abdominals the most out of the muscle groups. So in theory, if I continued doing barbell squats, deadlifts, and ab/oblique exercises, I should be working out the muscle groups I want right? I guess the main issue would be flexibility. Would these exercises inhibit flexibility? I'm 25 years old, athletic and in shape. I move pretty well. If I maybe focus more on stretching after workouts, will that help my golf flexibility?

Basically, I'm trying to fit in my weight training to work with golf for next season :D

Flexibility is huge, keep the hips back shoulders limber.

be strong in the legs, core, shoulders, forearms, wrists

and always remember, you are trying to gain "EFFORTLESS" power. not the kind of power that makes you swing like a gorilla

do the p90x for core, u really dont want any other muscles on your body getting to big. its much more the flexibility than the strength. look at the average pga tour player, and they are like 160 lbs
