I'm looking to start this game with a friend. Before I start though, I'm looking for a little breakdown of the different classes/subclasses and what their strengths/weaknesses are. There a few things I'm looking for in particular as well, so some suggestions in that regard would be helpful.

While not opposed to grouping with randoms, I'd like something that is able to farm efficiently solo/duo. Also, how goes PvP balance? The gameplay seems like it would be more skill-oriented than most others, but it'd be nice to have an idea about PvP hierarchy/balance as well. Is there any official way to trade in-game currency for cash shop currency? F2P games tend to have some pretty annoying basic restrictions like bag space and all that the cash shop fixes. Thanks.

I suggest some kind of mage class, as they are both in high demand, and able to solo fairly well. Paladins and priests are really gear reliant for future content, for warriors, Mercenaries are well received in almost all parties, but most everyone hates on Swordsmasters. Both of the tinkerer classes are strong solo/duo farmers, but their gear is all really expensive right now. Archer classes are fairly good at solo farming at this cap content, and they are arguably the strongest PvP class.

In general most people hold that Elementalists, Acrobats, Paladins, and the Tinkerer subclasses(alchemist/engineer) are strong PvP classes, but most of the matchups are easily overcome with skill.

PvP is non-gear dependant 90% of the time, and is fairly well balanced, once you get used to it. Its fairly skill based, though some people hold that all the "female" classes are op.

alot of people sell NX in game, though it is against the TOS. Its usually about 225: 1k.

Describe your preferred play style and I'll give you what class to make. Are you playing Dragon Nest to PvP or to PvM?

For reference, the PvP hierarchy is as follows at this moment (will probably change in two weeks, when the level cap raises from 40 to 50).
• Acrobat > Mystic > Mercenary > Elementalist > Paladin > Sword Master > Sharpshooter (without guided missle) > Priest
• There's a difference in the hierarchy in low level play (people who don't know wdf they're doing) and higher level play. The above list was higher level play.
• Tinkerer (Engineer / Alchemist) is an insanely lame class that you shouldn't ever play if you're serious about PvP. For dungeons, Engineer is pretty op. Alchemist is better for PvP.
• There's a "blacklist" on skills when you PvP (aka some moves that the players restrict you from using because it results in needless running and boredom)
• In this game, a player's skill makes a huge difference. Even with a class disadvantage, a good player can own a bad one. Also, there's no such thing as a class that never loses.

There is no supported way to trade in game currency with "NX". It's all backdoor and you can easily get scammed. Now go start the game and buy my gold.
:D

Cool, thanks for the responses.

The PvE seems pretty fun, and my friend is more PvE-oriented. I personally prefer PvP though. Glad to hear that Acrobat is good in both regards, since http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FbxxjA8j3I this video is what got me interested in the game, and the class looked really fast paced and fun. I've tried out each class to 10 or 15, and I think I'll go with the Acrobat for now. My friend seems to be leaning towards one of the Sorc classes.

Non-official NX trading is a bit of a bummer, but I guess I'll have to see. Thanks for the help.

The Acrobat class is the fastest paced character, but you should know that Acrobats receive a lot of negativity. Many players choose to not to fight Acrobats at all because they're too incompetent to compete. In terms of PvE, you should know that Acrobats (archers in general) very rarely make it into 8-man nests, so unless you're running with a guild or friends, you probably will have much difficulty finding a party in the blue.

For Sorc (PvE), Mystic is there for Fast Forward (reducing cooldowns, upping spamability) and Elementalist is there for damage (freezing for 1.5x extra damage and big damage skills).

I'd suggest Elementalist/mystic if you really want to join 8-man nests but still PvP. Mystic is faster paced than Elementalist, but both are good in PvP.

For reference, the highest level dungeon right now usually follows this composition:

2x paladins (for tanking)
2x priest (for heals/buffs)
1x mystic (for fast forward)
1x merc (for removing debuff/ adding Super Armor)
2x Any DPS (engineers and elementalists preferred)

If you're just going to play with your friend, acrobat is fun to do dungeons with on your own. Windwalker would probably get you into parties once 50 cap comes out, though. Spirit boost and Show Time are pretty good for PvE. Tempest is more PvP oriented.

That's disappointing. Is Mystic really that strong? Granted, I only got to level 18 or so, but it feels kind of slow. The spells seem to have a fairly long cast time or whatever you want to call it where it has to stand still. Maybe I'll just go with that though...Might still level up the Acrobat for soloing I guess.

just play the class you enjoy playing. if you get well enough geared, people will take you into their party.

if you enjoy acrobat, then play acrobat.
