And I'm sure you wouldn't wanna use any other IM..
Only other causes I can think of would be OS, some other program inhibitting it or aim just being faulty on it's own - if that's the case, then I'm afraid I'm out of ideas, sorry.
I'm not sure if you've already tried this, but try renewing/changing your password then login to make sure it's not that.

Hi, I just got a new dell laptop with Windows 7 and AIM worked fine then, two hours later, it did not. Randomly. Neither do programs like Trillion and Meebo. I am directly connected to the modem, firefox and internet explorer seem to work, as does skype. Does anyone have any more ideas? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the newest version of aim and trillion, I'm not using a proxy setting, I've been through everything aim troubleshooting suggests.
