I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and am having a little problem.

It is forcing me to plug in my microphone into the back of my computer and the headset into the front. It also says to plug in the speakers into the back.... and I would prefer that my headset and mic be on the same side.
How can I change where I want them to be?

On vista I was able to.... so... what do i do :( !?

I hope this is what you are looking for:

How to Change Audio Input Selection on Computer

Audio input devices are hardware components, such as microphones, that transfer audio into a computer.
Speakers, on the other hand, are output devices, because a computer sends audio to the device, not the other way around.
If you have more than one audio input device on your computer, you need to select which one you'll be using at any given time, by using the Windows audio control device.

Instructions:

1
Right-click one time on the "Speakers" icon in your system tray.

2
Click the "Recording Devices" link to open the Windows audio control device, which displays a list of all lines on your sound card. A "line" is another word for an input, and each input device you have connected to your sound card will appear in the window on screen.

3
Right-click and select "Show Disabled Devices" if it is not currently enabled.

4
Right-click on the listing for the audio input line on your sound card that is currently active. Click "Disable." This will disable that particular line.

5
Right-click on the listing for the audio input line on your sound card that you'd like to start using. Click "Enable." This will enable that particular line. Any recording program you use will then be able to use the device that is connected to that line. You can repeat Step 3 and Step 4 to continue to change audio input selection as needed on your computer.

If not then PM me with more details so I can find the right information for you :)

I can only pick one or the other when plugged into the back of the computer.
So for example, if I plug in the speakers I can't plug in the headset.

When I had Vista.... I had everything plugged into the back and it worked great!

either way, I don't know exactly where the tab is, but you need to enable more then only one primary audio device... :)

/This might be helpful/
Open Sound panel
Select Speakers as the default playback device
Go to the "Recording" tab
Right click and enable "Show Disabled Devices"
A recording device called "Wave Out Mix", "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix" (this was my case) should appear
Right click on the new device and click "Enable"
