I'm not sure if this is just another pointless quirk of Vista or whether it's the same on all Windows computers, but whenever I click the ALT + SHIFT buttons together with a keypad direction, the monitor changes direction and the resolution becomes 8 bit.

I've not got the faintest idea why, but it's making some games unplayable (due to needing to use these keys ingame) and it'd be helpful if anyone knew how to disable it.

The only two options in the 'Keyboard' setting are 'speed' and 'hardware'. Neither of them allow me to change the hotkeys.

This toggles keyboard languages. Try disabling every language except English

In the control panel under languages.

Edit: too lazy to type full guide

I consistently have to type in two languages (the other being Japanese and requiring characters outside the English alphabet), so I can't really disable other imput languages.

If I'm totally honest, I'm not sure what you're getting at here, as I only need a single specific hotkey changed. Can you explain? Or is there not just some way of modifying what hotkeys are assigned to which keys?

The hotkey is a 'universal' hotkey; I'm not sure of its technical name, but it isn't used in any of those programs, it is a default hotkey for the entire computer.

Not a problem. :)

Unfortunately still having trouble, though. Pressing 'CTRL+SHIFT+0' doesn't do anything. Just in case, I tried pressing 'CTRL+SHIFT+O' (as in the letter) but that just opens a folder called 'dwhelper', which is empty.

That is a firefox plugin for download helper. Remove the plugin / addon to firefox keycombo should work fine. Try it out lmk.
