What you could do is explain them your situation and tell them that you moved somewhere else and that you didn't receive the package, the only thing you can do with this is to resolve it from the place you ordered it.
In my point of view, when something is delivered to a place that ''You'' put and you have payed for it, I don't think you can get another one for free or get it back if you can't find it.
well the old house is abandoned and locked down, wood on the windows, nobody mowed the grass since we moved, etc etc.
and we have all our mail forwarded to this new house

the post office would hold onto a package instead of shipping it to a forwarded address? doesn't make any sense to me..
