Hey guys, recently I made a video, and in the video I put a song (Mr. Roboto by Styx, which I bought) in it for background music. The next day I got an email about copyright and youtube said something about not having to do anything about it. I took the video down anyway, but why was I sent an email about copyright when I bought the song off itunes? And would it still be okay to put the video up?

Your film probably had some copyrighted image or film; The musicks that you purchased probably had nothing to do with the copyright issue. Like others said as well, give the proper credit to the composition that you are using and you should be fine man. GL.

Because you dont own the song... try putting in the description "I did not make this music, and i do not own any rights to it, this is for promotional purpose only."

Thats right... they own the music, you just bought a copy of it.
Theres a difference, its not like buying a copy of a song makes you a partner of UMG

Even if content is bought legitimately, sharing it with others who have not paid for it is still copyright infringement.

Basically, Youtube insist on being assholes about everything, so just par them off with some generic copy and pasted message about you not claiming ownership of said content.
