Hello,

I am by no means computer illiterate, however my PC seems to be booting and navigating extra slow thru folders, menus, etc.

I have avast! antivirus, as well as a few registry cleaners like auslogics.

I have XP and not the best computer but Ive seen it run much faster

Processor 3.19GZ and 1 GB Ram
Has lots of free space, not really anything on it
I have tried basic things, such as disc defrag or disc cleaner

I am looking for possibly a new anti virus and other programs that may help
Money is not an issue, I will pay for something that may help

Also, any tips to try would also be nice

Believe it or not, the antivirus is probably whats causing you pain. I had a 1gb 2.2 ghz single core POS windows xp that could play WoW + multi screen streaming videos etc. I didn't use any anti virus and kept my processes to ONLY the ones needed.

I have 37 processes running and all I have open is firefox......................

How can I permanently disable the ones that are meaningless

That is actually a good number. End the anti virus process and see if it helps. Just don't download anything stupid / visit stupid sites.

Really? That seems like a ton to me..

Isnt there maybe an antivirus that eats up less memory cause I see at least 2 processes related to avast and theyre using 29k and 12k memory

AVG is pretty good I guess, the company I work for uses it and I hardly notice it.

But then again if you're going to be gaming on that machine expect lag regardless.

clean your computer out. Reseat all your components, get all the dust out and off your components. Check to see if theres any dust on your CPU etc. and maybe add another GB of RAM. Make sure its the same speed as your current.
