If you 100% can't remember how do you know you were dreaming?

When people fall asleep, typically with enough rest, people have approximately 8 dreams per night. The dream that most people remember is the final dream which means that the dream was not finished. One of the reasons we dream is to relieve the brain off of stress and ease what had happened during the whole day and typically one dreams of things one has already experienced. If you cannot remember your dream then it means that you finished your final dream and your brain is refreshed and not filled with the energies of the previous day. Super natural nightmares are an example of passed trauma that a brain is trying to cope with and debug every time a person falls asleep. This is why when people are upset, angry, or sad, when people sleep, they wake up feeling much better than the previous day, hence the phrase "Just go sleep it off". Good rest kind person of D2JSP.

The amount of dreams can differ based on the person. Some people have 3 to 5 dreams per night, others have anywhere from 5 to 7 dreams per night. I stated that a person has "approximately" 8 dreams per night, which means it's not an exact number. This is also based on how many hours a person sleeps for. If a person sleeps for eight hours, then that person spends approximately two of those hours dreaming, etc. Although, I am grateful and I thank you for your reply kind ToSteD person of D2JSP:

I don't even remember having them, myself, so no, that is not uncommon. It also doesn't mean anything like 'you aren't getting enough sleep' or anything else. Quite frankly, people still don't understand the sleep phases enough to understand why or not we dream; the only thing we know is that REM sleep is the only seemingly vital stage (which has nothing to do with dreams AFAIK). Everything's just theoretical.
