I recently bought a ethernet splitter ( http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11619693 )
I can't seem to get it to work. I plugged into my modem, two ethernet cables into it, plugged the cables into my laptops and only one has an internet connection.
Any help would be naise.

You need a router first :) Switches are after.

modem --> routeur --> access point/switch/splitter

e/ and the routeur is already a "switch" you can plug up to 4 in it directly. After you need switch (only cabled ofc). Up to 16 wi-fi connections, and much more wired with some switch.
o wait it's even worse :D I just saw the image. It's not even a switch. Just use a router. then splitter if needed, but i'd use a switch for real.

lmk if it was of any help.

motherfucker
This is only for my sister's place and I do not feel like spending $40 on a router.
I guess I'll just return this crap and buy a router then return it when I leave.
Thanks for the help, this can be closed.

Not entirely exactly correct. Some switches can be directly on a modem. Our servers are in between a modem / switch and they don't act as a router :P

I went out and bought a router. Doesn't matter anymore.
