When you turn off your computer, are you supposed to turn off the surge protector and/or your power supply switch in the back too?

surge protector - no
psu switch - doesn't matter really

just cause the computer is off doesn't mean it can't be damaged from a surge

if you're scared from a surge, unplug the computer..

turning stuff off does not save it.
