My former fav was World of Warrcraft.
Also tend to move back to diablo 2
would prefer non subscription based.

If you don't mind playing by yourself, offline, then Oblivion is a great choice. One of my favorite all time games ;)

League of Legends.
free to play, very fun game.
basically you get a hero and level it up to 18, kill some shit (heros/creeps/towers), get items to make char better, etc.
games last about 30-45 mins each
