I just got a new cell phone,
a Samsung Galaxy S2.

I heard I should charge the battery for 12 hours before starting it for the first time.
Is this true, or is it ok to start it right away?

Charge it until it appears to be full.

But then I have to turn on the cell phone..
If someone knows the answer to if I can turn on the cell phone now, while charging (and battery is just as fine), instead of charging it for ~12 hours turned off, then I would appreciate it :)

The exact amount of time doesn't matter. Modern batteries actually don't even require an initial charge. However, a recommendation is 16 hours.

You don't have to turn it on, the galaxy S series pop on the battery when charging while off then it poofs... Just tap the power button on the side to see its charge level. The S2s should say when full when that button is pressed.

Also I'm getting the Samsung Infuse 4G Tuesday then once the S2 launches in the states I'm getting that one, so don't spoil anything for me I wanna see for myself how amazing it is.
