So in my cube I have

Eth Kurast Shield ( No sockets / Non Sup ) ready to be eth bugged with
Tal Rune + Thul Rune + Perfect Topaz like the recipe says

But I hit transmute and nothing happens. I've done this before ...

Am I making a stupid mistake or is it just not working for me.

Maybe I'm just too drunk to do it. Oh well

Have you double checked the cube recipe?

I'm pretty sure its Perfect Ruby for shields. Perfect Topaz for armours.
