Hey guys,
Me and a mate just bought this game off steam for like 5 bucks, and we decided to play it online. However we couldn't figure out how to start a multiplayer game, so we looked up some tutorials. In every tutorial we read/watch, when people click on 'create a server' it makes a server but it doesn't bring you in game, requiring you to start another instance of Terarria to join the previously made server.
However in our version, you just go straight into the game. So the problem is, because our version goes straight into the game without showing you the server details ( especially the port ) my mates cant join the server because we have no idea what port to fill in when we are in the join menu.
We tried using the ports 7777 and 31337 as they seem to be the default ports, but even with those ports it didn't work.
So I really want to know how to play this game with friends now, else it'd have been a waste of 5 bucks.

P.S. We actually also tried hamachi but ran into the same problem ( not knowing what port to use ) and I have actually portforwarded the ports 7777 and 31337
