Alright you linux guru's need some help here

OS: Ubuntu running Backtrack linux codename Revolution

Trying to get Virtualbox working I've a package manager to get it installed now when I try to run it I get this:

You can see the error in the shell on the left here is a blown up picture of that:

Yes I've posted on their forums no they didn't respond yet

Yes I'm inpatient and posted here too

No please don't direct me to the computer forums, they are dead. There has to be another linux user here.

Edit: I have a feeling this is going to take some time to get some help on I bookmarked it also, what is the policy on bumping in the general help section? I'd check the rules but I have a feeling its hidden somewhere in a sticky.

You sure you installed the package(s) virtualbox-ose-dkms/guest-dkms? Also, have you tried running virtualbox as root and as normal user instead? Usually if it's a root/normal user problem you'd have a error something like: Cannot display on 0:0 driver, or something similar. I personally never used virtualbox package under Ubuntu - but I could give it a test here in a bit and tell you my results - also ensure you're using up-to-date packages (apt-get update/upgrade)

I know everything is up to date, as far as being installed correctly, I just got to my office about to setup that laptop now and run the package again to make sure that is installed I'll post my results after. Yeah if you could liveboot a ubuntu cd and see what you get that'd be amazing. As far as using a different user goes, would being on root really mess that up?

I'll load up Ubuntu and see what I get. Running it under root could mess it up depending on the package installer, I've had a ton of problems before with running programs under root vs normal user, it usually doesn't make sense but it's a option to try out - the possibilities are rather slim, though.

I'll install the virtualbox package and such, I'll need to also get a quick OS to load it with and I'll try it out - also, have you tried a different OS to load instead of Windows XP? I'm going to be using the newest Ubuntu, not backtrack altered or anything, though. I have slim experience under backtrack, I believe the last time I used it was during backtrack 4.

Question now that I'm thinking about it: It prompts that error once you launch the Windows XP, right? Or, does it do it beforehand, as soon as you start Virtualbox? Does it do it under those other OS's you have, Windows 7/Vista?

I think I got it working, I just re-downloaded the package and installed it via .run in the shell. My problem now is, the operating systems don't seem to wanna boot. I figured out I have to install them onto the hard drive, if I have legit keys is there anyway to just put them in and call it a day? Or do I literally have to download / use a cd for the OS itself?

You have problem with virtual box? You have to put the cd as #1 boot.
