First don't direct me to the computer forums as they are dead, there is sure to be a nerd here who can assist me.

First of all I'm getting a BSOD due to driver error. I've tried at least 2 copies of driver software from the same company.

Hardware specs: WUSB54G Ver.4 <-- Linksys wireless adapter that has been giving me trouble for about a month now.

Anyway to force-stop a BSOD due to driver error? I know it works without the drivers because when its plugged in it'll work, just randomly will BSOD during use. I don't have the software/drivers installed right now because they always stop at 25% when trying to install. I'd try it on my laptop but its Linux and it would just complicate things.

Be sure to know if your adapter is compatible with the operating system you are using.
Try running a registry cleaner.

I'm going to assume that the error code you are receiving is a 0x0000007E stop error.
If you are receiving a file error at a "______.sys" file(I think its rt2500usb.sys), then remove the adapter, uninstall the driver, and search all files for the name of that file.
Delete it out of your registry, and reinstall the driver, then plug your device back in.

If the above method did not help, and you are using the latest drivers released by Linksys, then the issue is either an incompatibility problem, or a hardware problem.

I believe that is the error code, this adapter is older then dirt and I'm running a windows xp sp2 (Won't let me upgrade to sp3 for some reason windows is legit) The driver is from cisco/linksys and every attempts to download a new one, it just doesn't install stays at 25% for like a hour. I'm assuming the file is corrupted. I might just boot linux on that pc as well even though it'd be nice to have at least one windows PC. Using a virtual box on my linux only goes so far lol.

Edit: If I try the steps you provided and it still doesn't work I'm going to either just buy a new adapter or use linux.

Can't edit due to its been like a hour or so since my reply

I went into the device manager and updated it automatically via that and it found the software so I didn't have to install the 3rd party networking software that usually goes with it. I'm going to assume its fixed now because it took a while to update and when it was finished it said "finished" but just to be safe I ran another update and it instantly said "cannot find a better driver then what you already have on the computer" Going to cross my fingers on this one I think its fixed.
