One guideline is to create/join a maximum of 20 games per hour. But this is only an approximate number, you can never be sure.
Completely avoiding it is hard, but changing the CD key every ~15 runs will definitely reduce the number of realm downs.

Also staying in the channel for a bit longer time will help, but I reccommend you to stick with iDGames answer.
