It's an old trick. It simply directs everyone to his own profile when he clicks the link.

edit: Which means only you see your profile, everyone else sees his profile.

It takes me to my own profile

Links that end in user.php=0 take you to your own while links that end in user.php=725240 for instance takes you to user 725240

Yes, it redirects you to your own profile. No worries, people are not able to access your profile / account with that link; it redirects them to their profile as well.
