Why would you say that? Because it's a shared hosting plan?

Because they are offering the impossible, unlimited storage and bandwidth is impossible. You are being screwed on resource caps and forced into an over populated server. Why pay 6 dollars a month (some are even more) for an unreliable resourced capped service, when you can pay 7-9 dollars for a much more reliability and properly populated server. Just like the majority of their new customers, you won't experience any problems, but wait until you start actually using your "unlimited" storage and bandwidth, you'll soon discover the purpose of their ToS.That is, it provides them "reason" to cancel your service. In the end, the uptime and reliability of a website are the primary points to it's success.

Edit: Feel free to do some brief research on the subject of resource capping. All unlimited hosts employ resources capping which often greatly restricts your SQL, CPU and memory usage. Rightfully so, it's required on a server that has 1,000 clients when it's physical capabilities is merely 200. Just don't be surprised if your visitors are faced with the message "Over CPU Limit" or something of that nature, it's not unusual that websites of >=200 visitors on unlimited shared hosting are plagued with this issue.

Edit#2: :p At the OP, I would strongly urge you to search for a company which is in your area. I'm assuming you are from the UK because of the co.uk, I would start my search there. Sorry, but I don't know any UK non-unlimited shared hosting providers, but I do know they exist.

He stated that he is looking to setup a website, doesn't know anything, and needs little storage space. I highly doubt he needs those resources. I see your point but even I have never had that issue on shared hosting and it's all I've ever used. I understand the perks of dedicated hosting but for most people they won't pay the added cost. A site like JSP would be very different than his by the looks of it.

Who do you prefer to use and what is the pricing etc, I am curious?

What I was meaning is, go with shared hosting, just don't go with unlimited. Because if your website hits even a small degree of success you will be required to move it, or upgrade your package to something that is over priced (that's how those companies work). It's been years since I've actually looked for a shared hosting plan, I've run my own dedicated servers for quite some time now, so I can't really "vouch" for a company. Which is why I suggested he search for a company that is local to his audience, if he is in fact UK based and his audience is as well, then it would benefit his website. I did a Google search, these aren't companies I have had direct experience with so I can't "vouch" for them, also I'm operating on the assumption that the OP is based in the UK. Anyway, here are a few possible options (in no particular order):

1. http://www.webhosting.uk.com/cpanel-hosting.php
2. http://www.eukhost.com/cpanel-web-hosting.php
3. http://www.fast2host.com/webhosting

That's after a 10 second search on Google, I'm sure there are hundreds more options.

cool, say for example i took that basic one from webhosting.uk.com, it says i get 500mb of space, and 5000mb of bandwidth
now what does that mean in reality?

is the 500mb what i can have up at any one time e.g. 5 emails with 100mb in each?
and the 5000mb how much can be added/deleted ?

cheers
