so, i'm running vista and my game kept freezing last night for no reason, and i think i did some automatic firefox update RIGHT before the game
i tried to system restore to before the firefox update, and now none of my .exe files will open.
it makes me try to select from a list
i can't even open system restore to try and undo whatever i did

currently on a different computer and i tried to google a quick fix
found some thing to try to fix in regedit but that didn't do anything at all

help :(

Your problem seems to be the fact that you experience difficulty in running .exe files.
I'd suggest you to run the .exe files.
Thank you.

Seems like an exe file association problem.

Can you start programs via Ctrl+Alt+Delete --> New Task?

e// Or Start --> Run

it asks me to choose the program from a list.
but if it's on my desktop and i choose "run as administrator" it works fine for certain programs, but not all

I used to have the same problem. The reason was that I caught some malware. To check if your computer is infected, start your computer in safe mode (with network), download Malwarebytes and perform a full scan. This will delete possible malware.

probably a registry error, run ccleaner and spybot S&D just to be sure (spybot detects .exe disabling malware)
http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=26909129&f=34

lmk if it works or not
and if spybot detects anything related to this, make sure to run a full anti-virus system scan if you haven't already
