Using a second notebook as a second monitor sadly does not work. This has to do with the construction of the video card inside the notebook.

This is possible and I found several guides by just doing a quick search on the internet. It will, bear in mind, take a bit of work and require you to take apart your laptop. Youtube has a couple guides for this as well.

I guess you want to use your desktop PC as your main computer and your laptop as a monitor? This is not possible unless you take your laptop apart. (like Fault already said - I didn't want to mention taking your laptop apart, since that's "some" work :p)

Edit: Even Fault's suggestion is not possible with every notebook. You said your laptop is already very old, therefore I don't think it's graphic card is be able to work with a VGA input signal.

This. It could work if you use your Laptop as your main computer and the other monitor as a screen. But otherwise it's not possible.
