Is there a version that doesn't require flash so we can use this on mobile devices? Is there going to be one?

Yes, after the beta stages/updates are completed, he has stated that he will make it multi-platform including phones, and new generation ipods (iTouch & iPhone)

Welcome to the guide to The d2jsp Instant Messenger Feature! :)
Written by Epiphany and Shop.
Please note that this guide will be edited several times in the future, as the d2jsp Instant Messenger feature is still brand new, and in beta stage (many changes will be made).

About the d2jsp Instant Messenger…
On February 14, 2010, a new d2jsp Instant Messenger (dIM) feature was hand-written and added to d2jsp, by njaguar. With this implementation, it allows less spam less spam to be posted on the forum, takes a fair amount of forum gold out of the ‘system’ and gives users a new and easy way to chat with their fellow friends and guildmates. If you’re interested in learning more about the new d2jsp Instant Messenger feature, read on!

Where the d2jsp Instant Messenger is located…

Shown above is a picture of the new link added to the top menu bar, located in the upper-right corner of your d2jsp webpage. Clicking the ‘Instant Messenger’ link will direct you to the newly added d2jsp Instant Messenger (dIM) section of the site. Please note that ALL d2jsp rules apply on the d2jsp Instant Messenger! If you abuse it, you will face the penalties up to being banned from using d2jsp entirely.

d2jsp Instant Messenger:

1. -- Hello, (User):
Greeting message.

2. -- # of Private Messages:
Here, you will see the ‘Private Messages’ icon. The number next to the icon states how many private messages you currently have in your message folders (to get to your message folders, simply click the icon).

3. -- # of Forum Gold:
Here, you will see the ‘Forum Gold’ icon. The number next to the icon states how much forum gold you currently have (to be directed to your d2jsp Gold Logs, simply click the Forum Gold icon).

4. -- Status: Online/Offline:
Here, you will see the status of the d2jsp Instant Messenger. As long as you are viewing the d2jsp Instant Messenger or have it open in another tab/window, the status will remain online (unless you have been idle for 30+ minutes or it has been manually disconnected by njaguar). To reconnect, simply refresh your browser/clear cache and cookies.

5. -- Active Chats:
Here, you will see the ‘Active Chats’ menu, followed by the chats you currently have open.

6. -- Friends (#/#):
Here, you will see the ‘Friends’ menu, followed by your online/offline friends. The list of contacts you see here is identical to the list of contacts you will see in the ‘Friends’ section of your d2jsp profile.

7. – Bolded Conversation:
If one of the conversations you have open appear to be bolded, it means that there is a new, unread, instant message waiting to be read.

8. – Normal Conversation:
If one of the conversations you have open appear to be in regular text, it means that there are no new, unread, instant messages.

9. – Faded Conversation:
If one of the conversations you have open appear to be faded, it means that the user you chatting with is currently offline.

10. -- Guild Chat:
Here, you will see the ‘Guild Chat’ tab. For d2jsp Guilds, that have purchased the Guild Chat feature, located on the left of the main Guild page, you will be able to chat with each of your online guildmates, all in one conversation.

11. -- Bolded User Icon:
If one of the users of your Friends list are currently online, the ‘User Icon’, to the left of them will appear bolded, and filled in dark blue.

12 -- Faded User Icon:
If one of the users of your Friends list are currently offline, the ‘User Icon’, to the left of them will appear faded.

13. – Message Box:
Here, you will see a box where you may type the message you are wanting to send to your Friend. Upon completing the message, you will want to press the ‘ENTER’ key, located on your keyboard, to send. You will want to make sure, beforehand, that the conversation, you are typing the message for, is the conversation that is highlighted in your ‘Active Chats’ list.

14. – Trade Warning:
If you are trading, always trade in a public topic. Never give out your password or other sensitive information to another person! The d2jsp Staff will never contact you requesting this information.

Guild Chat Continued…
http://i47.tinypic.com/333jshz.png
Above is a preview of what the Guild Chat feature, in the d2jsp Instant Messenger, looks like. Upon double-clicking the gray arrow on the right side of your ‘Guild Chat’ tab, you will see the list of each of your online guildmates who have joined the Guild Chat section of the d2jsp Instant Messenger. Treat this just as you would a normal user-to-user d2jsp Instant Messenger conversation. Double-click the gray arrow on the right side of your ‘Guild Chat’ tab to leave the Guild Chat chatroom. There is no sound notification for new messages, when inside your Guild’s Guild Chat chatroom, but the Guild Chat tab, in your list of open conversations, will appear bolded. Please note that you can only enter your own Guild’s Guild Chat chatroom.

Settings:
Click on the silver ‘Settings’ icon! -->http://i50.tinypic.com/2rgkih3.png
As you can see above, there is now a new ‘Settings’ icon, located to the left of your greeting message (“Hello, (User)”). Clicking on this icon will bring up a little ‘Settings’ window, where you can pick and choose which features you would like to turn on or off, for the d2jsp Instant Messenger.

Here is an example of the window:
