Quote (NevV @ Aug 4 2011 12:19am)

Alienwares are junk in my opinion. They are just putting a big price tag and a fancy logo on some sweet looking machines but functionally they aren't that great. Also, I've heard lots of horror stories of them crapping out and destroying sensitive data (my friends ate an important CD of his, and my other friends hard drive failed and he lost lots of stuff)

I'm posting this from my Alienware and I can affirm they aren't junk. If you honestly believe that, then you've been seriously brainwashed by Apple, Inc. I wonder how many "lots of horror stores" amounts to. I could say that I've heard Mac horror stories (and I have), but that doesn't make Macs bad. They're actually good machines. I think they're overpriced, though, when you can get so much more performance out of an Alienware or Asus (g73sw looks soooo nice... seriously, google that shit!). If you really want Mac OS, then you can put it on a different machine and plop an Apple sticker on it, since that's what it seems like people are paying for (funny how NevV kind of insinuates the opposite in his post).

Yes, there are more viruses on Windows, but they're also very easy to avoid. Having real-time protection (Avast or AVG... or Symantec if you want to pay for it) and staying away from unknown websites goes a long way.

One last thing I'd like to point out is that I'm sure the likelihood of hard drive failure on an Alienware and a Macbook Pro are about the same. However, I know that Dell offers a free warranty for such and will physically send an agent to your home (if you want) and have them fix it. I don't know if this service is available for the Macs (from their business model and prior experience, though, I'd say it's a long shot).

Oh, I actually thought of one more thing as I typed this: LED customizable keyboard lights :) They're fucking awesome and people are amazed when they see them (even my Macfriends).

By the way, if people deride you for your choice in computer... well, it says a lot about them. Good luck either way.

/edit sorry saratogas i just realized the quote messed up and I'm actually quoting the Strongbad avatar guy. I'll fix my post.

first im going to say that i didnt read any of the other users responses

well then
alienwares are certainly good computers, anyone who says different is a retard
the problem with alienware is that they are charging you about triple the normal price and the only "extra" thing you get is a cool looking case
you could build a computer exactly the same as the top alienware the only difference will be about 1/3 the price
you could probably upgrade everything to fucking godly and still pay less

i have no comment on macs, i personally hate mac because of the infinite amount of restrictions
macs are good for 1 thing, music

gl

edit: 1 last thing if this computer is meant for gaming, you will regret purchasing a mac for this purpose almost instantaneously after installing the first game.
