Yeah, I'm using Vista so Linux is out of the question.

Turning off UAC eliminates the whole 'administrator thing' on Vista, meaning to my knowledge that this isn't possible. I suppose I can try it, but it requires two long reboots to activate and deactivate it again, and I'm fairly certain this isn't it.

Process of elimination I work in tech support and a TON of times its always the smallest thing you never suspect but its up to you, it probably isn't the right answer but would just eliminate another possibility.
