This is free correct? cause i read somewhere that this takes a fair amount of fg out of the "system"

To converse with users that are on your Friends list, it is 100% free.
But to talk to your guildmates in your Guild Chat section of the dIM page, you have to purchase a Guild Chat, which you can do here (it costs 1,000fg, which is what we mean when we say it takes some fg out of the 'system'):

yep 1k fg to chat in a prive room... ooo AWWW amazing work ... let me think on this for a sec... pay 1k fg to use pauls second hand im server... or use msn... where i can even... post pics... hmm oh thats free... and i dont have to be on the page all the time for it to work... lol

like i said and soo many others its a fucked idea and paul wants more fg to be out of the hands of others... used to be proud of my stars.. now im removing them and will never spend another dime on this site
