So im downloading DDO atm and im just wondering that if the archer/ranger is good class in this game? Ive always been kinda into archers or something that use Bows so i had to ask this :)= also can i make archer from humans and orcs or is it only on elfes?? + wich one should i choose to do my archer.

My g/f plays as a full elf ranger archer, she loves it. I would advise getting a hireling that can off-tank off-heal like a cleric or favored soul especially if your going to solo.
The Ranger- Archer doesn't do so well being surrounded and hit with melee weapons.

arcain archer with multishot can be very very effective, especially if you have 2 archers in your party, you can drop things long before they can reach the party.


and as for azrayael's comment, i would have to disagree, many-of-time i have found myself surrounded by melee, and the neat thing about 2 rouge/2 fighter/x ranger is you have evasion and a high dodge, therefore you can simply dance (jump) around and they will miss, all the while, sinking multishot arrows directly to the top of the cranium.

Every race can be an archer. If your just starting out though I highly suggest you use ddowiki.com to your full advantage. Also you might want to go with one of the preset paths (unless you know D&D). Great game though Hope to see you on Khyber. I'd be able to help you there. Not to mention My 2nd in Command has a 17 Drow Arcane Archer, and he could probably give you all kinds of help.

Archer with bow is viable but doesn't even come close to malees, not even bothering to mention casters.
Rogue or Artificer with repeater can be much more effective though.

Artificers are a bit overpowered now and I am enjoying it.
As an artificer, you can kite. You can pew pew. You can heal. You can have two tank pets. You kill things that are 902382390 miles away and dropl them before they reach half way to you.
You break almost all DRs with just a min2 repeater. You get free flaming bolts! You get rune arms that can do some incredible damage. With an easy-to-farm runearm(lucid dream from mindsunder. Just run 3X casual) you rarely see anything resisting your force damage. (my current record per a tier5 runearm shot is at 2.5k.)

A ranger may do everything an artificer can do but at a much slower pace.

a good well built fighter tank will outlast all of these archers but is very gear oriented and you must know how to play or build one imo to start off with go ranger/arti/rogue/cleric to get to understand how some of the good players play then go from there been a long time player on khyber ( 4th life tr fighter tank ) well known also names sheeena on khyber hit me up for info

Ranger Archer dps is MUCH inferior than other viable classes.
If you want a range toon, try mech rogue or artificer.
