im willing to try the game, only one question

are items and builds unique to every other player? basically is it the opposite of wow?

if you go on the ddo forums of the official site, they have a lot of different builds for newcomers

I know DDO is F2P, but isnt a LOT of the content p2p? by subscription or buying points to unlock it?

I remember playing it in closed beta I believe. That made me quit because I really couldn't do a lot of the things that a sub wouldve given me. I dont know if that has changed upon release.

I still havent payed for anything. The points you buy are used for convenience items mostly (xp boost etc) as well as unlocking game features (drow or monk for instance). There are usually ways around unlocking these i.e. drow is unlocked when your rep with a faction gets high enough. That being said I dont believe you can get monk w/o grinding out points (creating, playing through opening storyline, deleting the char (begg town awards 25 points) and doing it again. So essentially yes its f2p unless you absolutely have to be monk etc, or until endgame if you want some of the dung content.

Oi also many quests are going to be p2p (about 2/3) so to stay f2p youll have to grind it out on repeated instances.

there are ways to grind available content repeatedly and get every thing for free,

you unlock drow at 400 favor, vet status at 1000 favor, 32 pt builds at 1700( i think), and favored soul at 3200 favor.

you get 25 tubine points for every 100 favor. witch if you only buy content....

and there are times when things are on sale so its more cost effective.
