Yep, you want to buy at least something. I would suggest 32 point build or the necropolis pack.

Why would I want to buy "at least something?" I probably missed it.
About this limit or something like that?

I tried to stay free to play but exp got really slow around lvl 15 and such.

Vale pack is great exp for then, although gianthold might be nicer now since it has both heroic and epic content.

ddo is free to play but some packs and expansion cost real money but you can favor farm for turbine points to unlock stuff takes a lot of time or you can buy point packs at like walmart there are tons of character guides on ddo forums f2p has like a 2,000 plat limit per lvl I belive any other info send me a tell I have been playing on Khyber server for 4 years +

I like the model. I haven't played DDO in a long time, but I have four characters on one of the servers and I still own a bunch of content.

I've spent a decent amount of money on DDO; it is a good product. The advantage is that once somebody buys content they will always own it.

I can go back and play my stuff right now :) It is a cool concept.

People are right about humans being good...the extra feat is GG. The game is really unfriendly to anybody who hasn't played D&D before and doesn't know the systems....

The official game forums are useful for ideas and how to guides. It is easy to gimp a character when taking levels in multiple classes or picking the wrong feat.

I quit recently because the end game is so poorly designed.

Essentially there is 3 difficulties:
Epic Normal - I don't think it's honestly possible to die in EN.
Epic Hard - Mildly difficult to those whom are undergeared, ill informed about classes/combos, or simply don't know the quest well.
Epic Elite - Ranges from incredibly difficult to incredibly easy, depending on how well built your character is and more importantly how well you are abusing the game mechanics and how everything meshes together.

Essentially, instead of creating actual difficulty, they just made it so mobs hit 10x harder and have 10x more HP. None of your defensive stats matter with the exception of dodge/incorporeal/concealment(these are flat dodge percents that all stack) and your PRR(Essentially a % DR)

It is not worth the time to farm for the points, and it is quite mandatory to either buy a large sum of points to unlock key things or to simply subscribe.

The game is 100% pay to win. You do not regenerate mana, but you can buy mana potions from the store that have no cooldown.

I do however think if you're looking for a solid MMO that strays from the WoW mold it's a great place to start. The unfortunate part about the game in general is just how strong it is to throw money at the game for massive benefits, how bland the endgame is not only in content but in viable character builds, and I think most importantly the lack of players. You run into the same people all day and most of them are incredibly fucking clueless.
