You need to know how to play to make a bow ranger, and they're easily one of the best DPS builds currently. Arcane Archers rape.
Yet Deepwood Snipers do a LOT more burst damage.
By a LOT more. I mean 3-4 times more.
Arcane Archers are Deepwoods both however have theirs ups and downs

well one of the best classes but not in my groups ... maybe if we have 1 random char slot left
My Ranger will out DPS almost any class you put in your parties.
Both of them
I have a Melee ranger that slaps on a bow every 2 minutes and absolutely pummels things. I have more AC than most of your sub-par/par tanks. I have a + 53 Disable Device. My hit blows everyone else's out of the water. I can heal myself, as well as save your cleric some mana curing poisons, casting Resists/Protections, Freedoms. Etc. Maybe you should PLAY a ranger before making biased statements.

best groups 1 wizard 1-2 clerics /fvs (1 cleric + bard is ok too) 1-2 tanks 1 rouge rangers are useless
The " Best" Group has a Favored Soul, not a Cleric.
Why would you bring 1-2 "Tanks" is beyond me. 2 Rangers, A Bard, A Sorc, a FVS, and a "Tank" Figure.
One of your Rangers or Bards will have a splash of Rogues for DD. And yes, All it takes is a splash for a lot of traps. If you're using the right gear, a capped toon with 1 level of rogue can cap around 55-60 Disable Device which is enough for a good bit of content as long as we're not looking at elites. If you want to do end-game elites/epics You'll need a Rogue in place of a ranger.

how could it be "best groups" the best cleric should be able to heal everyone in group and the best tank should be able to tank everything...
This is solely based on the group's ability to allow the tank to gain agro on mobs that are not intimidatable - IE Vermin, Scorps, If they need to be tanked.

I'm thinking of rolling a Sorc.
How many spells do sorcerers get to have active at any given time? I know this is their main weakness compared to a wizard who can swap in spells as he chooses.
Good idea. Granted they're not as versatile as Wizards, they're DPS whores.
http://ddowiki.com/page/sorcerer?rdfrom=http%3A%2F%2Fddowiki.com%2Findex.php%3Ftitle%3DImage%3ASorcerer.png%26redirect%3DnoThis should help you in your adventures. I reference this for my characters constantly. It tells you when you get how many spell slots. It's QUITE the handy site.
